Would you believe that the tigers far away in the wild are the reason you get regular water at your home? Unlikely, right? After all, what do tigers have to do with your home’s water supply? As it turns out, a lot!
Tigers are found in a host of habitats across the world: grasslands, savannas, forests, and even mangrove swamps that overlap with watersheds. These watersheds replenish underground water and rivers providing clean drinking water to more than 830 million people. Isn’t it fascinating! And this is just one example of how a healthy population of tigers can benefit other species, in-cluding humans.
This apex predator shares its habitat with co-predators such as leopards, hyenas and jackals, and prey such as deer and wild boars and plays a significant role in maintaining a healthy ecosystem. Globally, there are 13 tiger range countries that inhabit the existing subspecies of tigers with India being home to the highest number of tiger individuals.
